The best life is a God First life

When the pangs of life seem overwhelming

The pangs of life can seem overwhelming at times, if only for a few minutes. Our hearts may hurt and feel squeezed and empty, leaving us emotionally consumed and gasping for breath. Our shield of faith may grow heavy in our arms and, during our human weakness, be carelessly lowered, allowing the darts of evil to strike and drift us into shadows of bleak despair; however, Even in these darkest of moments, with Christ; we can overcome. We must reach out! Reach out in prayer,  reach out to our Brothers and Sisters in Christ, spend time in God’s Word and reflect on all the countless reasons we trust in the lord. Scripture tells us the closer we draw to God, the closer he draws to us. If we keep God First in our lives, we have what we need to overcome even in our weakest moments.

  • Ephesians 6:16 (shield of faith)
  • 1st Peter 5:7 (cast your burden on the Lord)
  • Galatians 6:2 (share with one another)
  • James 4:8 (as we draw closer to God, he draws closer to us)
  • Matthew 11:28-30 (I will give you rest)
  • Matthew 6:33 (Seek First)

Focus on the good

With so much evil in this world to distract our hearts and minds, let us NOT lose focus of all the good that surrounds us (often in humble quietness).

Let us work to keep our hearts and minds open and focus on the good; let us think and practice the words we find in Philippians.

“Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.” ~ Philippians 4:8

Let us be a light to others and recognize the shining lights in our lives; let us give thanks and say Thank-you today to those whose quest to live righteously inspires us to do the same.

  • Matthew 5:16 (let your light shine)
  • Galatians 6:9 (Never give up on doing good)

Planned Spiritual Edification

  • 1 hour – Sunday bible class
  • 1 hour – Sunday Worship
  • 1 hour – Sunday eve worship
  • 1 hour – Wednesday bible study
  • 1 hour – 1st and 3rd Thursday for a men’s bible study.

Above is my typical schedule for planned edification each month in bible classes and worship service. When you add travel and prep time, this calculates to around 7 % of my “awake” hours per month; this really surprised me. Does this number surprise you? I thought it would be greater than 7 %.

With the impact of the COVID-19 government restrictions, many who once had similar schedules now pray, worship, study, and partake in communion each week at home due to government guidelines and/or health concerns for themselves and others. For most, this is because they feel it necessary, not because they want to. Christians understand if we can’t gather with our brothers and sisters in Christ, our ability to edify one another is severely diminished; that is, our ability to be in-person examples and have others be our examples is hampered. Our ability to “go and do” (Matt 28:18-20). To personally share the message of God’s incredible love and Grace extended to every person suffer’s when we limit our interaction. So, we all look forward to soon being together again in-person at every opportunity.

The thought I’m really trying to convey is: How much time are we actually spending in honor and service to our creator? How much time are we utilizing to edify one another, study, and spread the message of Christ in normal times?

Suppose we can recite the Bible word for word and have a perfect understanding of it; what good does that do us if we do nothing with it? (see Matt. 25:14-30)

Are we doing the most with the time we have, or are we dangerously striving to do what we think is the bare minimum to be heaven bound?

In Luke 18, The rich young ruler kept the commandments of God, yet Jesus told him to give away all you have and follow me. The ruler’s heart was misplaced, and he went away sad, apparently unwilling to give his all. For us, our riches may be money, or maybe it’s how we prioritize our time.

We are so important to God!

Jesus gave EVERYTHING for us; How much effort are we willing to give Him? Rhetorically: What percentage of our precious time are we willing to spend on going and doing?

In love, God First!

Absolute Truth

Absolute truth is the only truth from God.

Shades of gray have nothing to do with God.

Jesus put it this way…

“Let what you say be simply 'Yes' or 'No'; anything more than this comes from evil.” ‭‭MATTHEW‬ ‭5:37‬ ‭ESV‬‬

If Satan Were Lazy

I wish Satan were lazy, but unfortunately, he’s not. The Bible says he prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. If only everyone who calls themselves Christian had Satan’s determination, only for good, rather than evil. Seeking ways to show others the love of God through our actions, as the Bible tells us to do by loving God first, and our neighbors as Jesus loved us.

If we truly love God, we want to please God and keep His Commandments. As Christians, we cannot afford to be lazy. A Lazy Christian is like the one talent servant, and that only pleases Satan.

Jesus gave us an assignment:

And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.”

mARK 16:15-16
  • 1st Peter 5:8 (Devil prowls)
  • Matthew 25:14-30 (parable)
  • 1st John 5:3 (Keep Commandments)
  • Mark 16:15 (share the gospel)
  • Matthew 22:37-39 (greatest command)

When our Faith is in the Lord

Joy is in our hearts; it is unwavering and unscathed by the winds of happiness or sadness as our trust is NOT, In Ourselves, Our Emotions or Others.

Our Faith Is In The Lord!

May others always see the joy in our hearts through our actions and reactions. Not as fleeting emotions, but as resident parts of our very being. (Joyful souls)

Share the joy!

God First !

“Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.”

1st Peter 1:8-9

Why every week?

The first day of the week comes every week, and it’s called Sunday. On this day, because we love God and are grateful for the love we have received, we set aside time to communion with fellow Christians and Christ. (Matthew 18:20)

We partake of unleavened bread and the fruit of the vine as a remembrance of Jesus’s death, burial, and resurrection, His body, and His blood, which was shed that we might have eternal life in heaven.

We do so because of the example we find in Acts 20:7, here we see his disciples gathered on the first day of the week to remember Jesus’s sacrifice the way Jesus instituted it.

Before His death and resurrection, Jesus taught the concept of eternal life through His body and blood in John 6:22-71. Jesus also set forth this remembrance in the accounts we find in: Matthew 26:26-30 and Luke 22:14-21

After Jesus’s resurrection, Paul addresses the Church at Corinth in 1 Corinthians 11: 17-34  They were guilty of abusing this time of communion.

It’s fair to surmise from Scripture that this should be a solemn time when we seriously examine ourselves, judge ourselves, and reflect on the cross. A time when we reflect on the love and sacrifice Jesus extended to us. Making it possible for us to have eternal life in Heaven.  1 Corinthians 11:26-29

One of the best spiritual questions I’ve ever been asked…

Why would you want to cheat yourself like that?

As I pondered this question, I realized that not taking advantage of Bible classes and Worship at every opportunity is cheating myself. This question prompted a positive change in my life. It led me to pursue a deeper conviction in my priorities, truly putting God First. Not just through words but through action.

God’s word is so powerful; we have so much to gain by hearing it, studying it, adopting it, and applying it to our lives, and we cheat ourselves when we don’t.

It’s my hope you will also ponder this question because it’s not just you that’s affected. It’s those who know you and see your example. Your family and friends. It’s all who hear the truth you learned, rather than recollections and speculation of things you’ve heard but don’t fully grasp.

When we engage in understanding the whole truth spoken in “God-breathed” scripture, when we actually study and apply what we learn from our Heavenly Father, we stop cheating ourselves and others. We became part of a grand solution.

Don’t cheat yourself!

Take advantage of every opportunity you can to learn more about what God wants for us.

God First

Foundations of love

When our foundation is genuinely rooted in God’s Holy Word, Our roots will weave in and out of every word absorbing living water that never ends. Our lives will glorify God by our every action. The closer we draw to God, the closer he draws to us, and if God is with us, who can be against us?

”But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

(Matthew 6:33)
  • John 4:13-15 (living water)
  • James 4:8 (God draws closer)
  • Romans 8:31(God with us)
  • Matthew 16:13-20(upon this rock)
  • 1 Peter 2:1-10

God First!

God is Love, God is Good

So good that he can not be tempted with evil.

“Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one.”

‭‭James‬ ‭1:13‬

So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.

1 JOHN 4:16

Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,
for his steadfast love endures forever!
